HumanWare introduces the BrailleNote Touch, the first Android All in One braille tablet providing Play Store access
Montreal, March 24 2016 — HumanWare is pleased to introduce the revolutionary BrailleNote Touch at the 2016 CSUN conference in San Diego. The Touch which has the power and openness of a modern tablet, reinvents the concept of assistive technology. It is the first Android Braille Tablet providing Play Store access combined with the efficiency, literacy, and benefits of the most recognized braille note taker in the industry.
Learning to use this ground breaking device will be intuitive for a blind user, regardless of their past experience with technology. At the heart of the BrailleNote Touch is the familiar KeySoft experience, known for its short learning curve, context sensitive help and efficient braille literacy support.

The BrailleNote Touch includes a patent-pending TouchBraille input technology allowing users to efficiently type braille on a touchscreen. This input method brings the control of a traditional note taker to a modern user-friendly experience. Since the user is typing on a touch screen, TouchBraille allows for completely silent typing with no mechanical keys.
The Touch is designed for productivity!
The Touch includes HumanWare’s well known KeySoft apps, including KeyWord, KeyMail, KeyPlan, and more. This unique device ensures users get things done and stay productive. These familiar productivity apps have been completely rewritten to offer today’s mobile users the functionality they need and expect. Users will be able to create professionally formatted documents in KeyWord, send and receive emails using the most popular email providers with KeyMail, and download and read books using the popular VictorReader application.
Since the BrailleNote Touch offers access to the Play Store, it is not limited to KeySoft’s productivity apps. Users can access documents stored on Google Drive, collaborate with classmates or colleagues with Google Docs, or communicate with friends and colleagues around the world with Google Hangouts. All this can be done in perfect contracted and uncontracted braille, making it so much more enjoyable to chat in your favorite social media applications like Twitter or Facebook. You can even share YouTube videos with your sighted friends and classmates, thanks to the visual touchscreen! With KeySoft and its intelligent first letter navigation, no need to ever swipe through screens since any accessible application can now be used efficiently. With the Touch, it’s really about productivity, connectivity and a modern experience.

During the CSUN launch presentation, Eve Andersson, Lead of Google accessibility said: “Google’s mission is to Organize all of the world’s information and make it accessible and useful. We take accessibility at Google very seriously. We have these open ecosystems which allow amazing innovators like HumanWare to take things way beyond anything that we would have imagined. This is the very first technology I have seen which brings together the best of both worlds, both accessible and mainstream technology, there are no compromises here. And it does look really cool…”.
“Today, blind students and professionals have access to more information than ever before. Quite often however, accessing that information is done in extremely inefficient ways, and in the majority of cases, without any usage of braille. Traditionally, assistive technology and mainstream technology have been separate entities. Today, with the help of Google, we are changing this with the BrailleNote Touch. The Touch unifies the efficiency, braille productivity and simplicity of a traditional braille note taker, with the power and open access to apps found on today’s modern tablets,” said Greg Stilson, blind user of technology and HumanWare’s Product Manager of Blindness products.
The Touch includes a smart carrying case that not only protects the Touch during every day use, but also features a smart and fully removable keyboard that fits directly over the touchscreen. This allows for an intuitive and familiar user experience with a smooth learning curve, perfect for young children who are learning to type braille. The keyboard also makes taking notes on the go and writing or editing long documents and emails easier and more efficient than ever.
HumanWare is very proud that together with Google we are offering the latest mainstream technology with the best accessible solutions to our users.
