HumanWare pays tribute to the life and contribution of Jim Halliday

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of HumanWare’s co-founders, Jim Halliday, on May 14, 2022. Jim began his career in the 70s and was a pioneer in the field of assistive technology. In 1988, he had the opportunity to start a distribution company that he named HumanWare and served as its president until he retired in 2007.

As HumanWare was part of Pulse Data International (PDI), the name HumanWare was retained as part of the merger between VisuAide and PDI in 2005, as it reflected the mission and values of the new company. Thanks to Jim’s legacy, the HumanWare brand and reputation are well established in the U.S. and the company culture he created by putting people at the center of technology is still present and respected more than three decades after its inception.

Those of us who had the opportunity to work with Jim feel a tremendous loss. Jim was a man of exceptional wisdom, empathy, and genuine listening skills: a brilliant mind and unparalleled kindness. He also had great artistic talent and treated everyone equally. He was well liked by all who knew him.

“Jim’s vision for HumanWare lives on in all of us. His work ethic, his dedication to his teams, clients, and business partners, his unwavering desire to always do the right thing, and his belief that his colleagues were integral to his personal success and that of the company made him an exceptional man,” said Gilles Pepin, Executive Chairman and co-founder of HumanWare.

RIP Jim: You will be missed but never forgotten.
